(from Dec 2004 Street Machine Magazine)

You should have seen the looks on the people's faces as they walked into the Tasmanian Custom Car, Bike & Boat Show and were blinded by the hunk of polished metal hanging out in the Myers Mustang.

Shipped down to Tassie by show organiser Matt Hamilton, the timing was perfect as Silver Bullet had just hit the stands as the Street Machine cover car. He couldn't have planned it better if he'd tried.

With a love for anything with a surplus of horsepower, whether on four wheels, two wheels or on the water, Matt puts this show on just for fun. He also runs a bar in downtown Hobart - Joe's Garage - which is absolutely jam-packed with memorabilia from just about every type of motorsport you can think of .

With more than 30 cars, 60 bikes, and a handful of boats, the cosy confines of the Hobart Town Hall were packed to the gunwales and the 6000 punters who rolled through the gates across three days proved Matt had the right combination.

.

The Show itself was organised in only five weeks but with a half dozen previous shows under his belt and a large network of car, bike and boat nuts on his speed dial, Matt managed to put together a very successful show. This was the first show in six years but Matt plans to make it a regular feature on the Tassie Calendar.

Tough LH Torrie belongs to Adrian Evans and looks like it packs some serious punch up front. Check out that metal mountain! Star attraction was the Myers family's Silver Bullet Mustang. Fans flocked to the show for a chance to check it out in the metal. Built entirely in a dirt-floor garage, this super-tough Valiant hardtop is the work of Kahn O'Donnell. Stuffing a set of 15x15 wheels out back and a big block Dodge up front, the big old coupe is one of the toughest cars to roam the streets of the Apple Isle

The tough rat started life as a studebaker and has been hit with the flat black paint and red wheel treatment by Darren Stuart. Zoomies are non-functional, but get people wondering how the thing's so quiet. Robert Greer showed up with this stunning 57 hardtop. The 396-powered coupe took the Best Custom award. Word is he's building another one which will be even better. Chopped, smoothed and slammed '55 F-100 looks super-tough rolling on polished American Racing wheels. Built by Steve Richmond, the truck was sold at the show and is rumoured to be heading to the mainland.

Smiling but worn out with Leigh Flaherty's VL which is no longer. Obviously high octane runs through the veins in the Hamilton family. This sedate-looking Cortina is owned by Matt's son Darby. It runs a big block Chev and destroys the quarter mile in low 10s. Not bad for a fully street registered car.

Coolest Cruiser would have to go to Quinton's '59 Chev. Known as the Von Dutch of Hobart (not for his baseball cap). Quinton has a penchant for suede rides with wiled flames and pinstriping.

Gary Paul's smooth ' 64 Galaxie hardtop towed a ski boat for a bit of extra sparkle in this display. Shoulda been in a recent Expression Session!

SPEED HUMP
This is far from your average Humpy with some stickers slapped on the doors. Raced by owner Peter Mather in the early 70s, the car held the lap record at Symmons Plains for many years. After selling it, the car disappeared - only to be found years later in a paddock looking much the worse for wear.
Peter bought it back and spent almost 15 years restoring it to its former glory. The FJ Packs the state of the art in grey motor speed equipment - including a rare Repco cross flow head, triple 40mm Webers and 10.6:1 compression.
Show organiser Matt Hamilton was rapt to get the horn humpy. As a school kid he used to walk past the servo where the car was kept, jump in and pretend he was a racecar driver. The car was a mess when it was found but Peter's done such a good job that it won Top Competition
